even wives can't come between these two....

This picture cracks me up. The other night at Cheeburger Cheeburger there was a fundraiser for a family in the church whose dad has been in the hospital over a month. It was a boss time, so many people came out. I think it should be a tradition, as long as Kenneth is designated photographer. :)

ice skating times 2

On our last trip up to Philly, Jer and I spent the afternoon with Rick and Traci catching up on life. This summer they will be having their first baby!!! So, shout out to little healey.
This is our 2nd year in a row going to Penns Landing with R & T. But 3 years ago (the same week) some of the gburgers (jer, garrett, elise, casey and johnny leach) came up to hang out with some of us and Jer and I met for the first time.
Then we headed over to the Reading Terminal for some good grub. Check out how R & T both have their mouths open.... "how to I get this goodness in me".
Ha, this chocolate place had some good puns. Sharpie this one is for you.
Introducing for the first time on this blog....Philbert.
Next skating experience: A few weeks ago we went to a local rink down here. Bowers kids and this really cool girl we know named Lauren. But you can call her LG.
This picture is one of those ones which will forever and always make me laugh when I see it. Story: So, we get to the rink late, stand in line for waaaay to long, finally get on the rink and hour after the 2 hours skating starts. LG who is southernish is a little cautious on the ice cause she hasn't skated in 10 years. So, we make it down one length of the rink and this giant monster comes out and they have to clear the ice. So now we have to make it all the way back to the other side. :) We were scared, it even honked at LG cause she wasn't going fast enough. OH, and I kept calling it the Zambino and was quickly corrected by the boys... ZamBONI.
Us trying to strike a figure skating pose. Except we kept falling over.
the sibs.
we heart each other greatly. question of the night: if you could star in any musical which would you pick?

Featured Friend

I thought the blog could use something new. So I'm installing "Featured Friend". To kick it off I picked the lovely Reenie Burke aka Aunt Reenie. Reenie and I worked together at the church office and shared many lunches together, driving around in her beloved car "kitty litter". She is the mother of the fake family that Jer and I are apart of. There is a very nice quilt in my apartment, made by Reenie, one of her many talents. She taught me how to make chicken and cheese enchiladas...which is on the menu for dinner next week! Please enjoy Reenie's answers to the questionnaire.

1. Full Name: Maureen Elizabeth Burke

2. Favorite place to eat lunch? Moe’s and I gotta go there really soon. I am going with out to lunch with my girl Alyce and I think we gotta go to Moe’s

3. what is your worst habit? Speaking with out thinking first, I really do not see a huge issue in it but it can cause a lot of problems in marriage. I have a really handsome husband (not that that has a lot to do with anything) but he is trying to be more helpful and understanding when I do this.

4. what is currently on your things to read list? All the Jane Austin novels. There are only what 6 and I have only ready two, I must be the laziest person I know. This summer I will lay in my pool and read them all….

5. how do we know each other? Well we met when you were a brat, well maybe not a brat but you had huge glasses. I was in a care group with your mom we may have met then, you would have been in Jr High, and Mick and I were just married. But I think we really started to get along so famously when we went to Brooklyn. That was the funest (this really is not a word, but it should be so don’t correct it) trip, remember I could never remember what the olds looked like? I still do not recognize that dumb van.

6. if you could star in a musical which one would it be, and what character would you play? I do star in a musical. My life is a musical and as Rick Healey so kindly pointed out it is a low quality one. I want to try out for American Idol. I cannot sing and would never even get near Paula and company because of the age limit, but I think it would be really cool to be with all those weirdos that try out. Is this an answer to the question?

7. taylor swift or carrie underwood? I would not know a taylor underwood song if I tripped over one. How about Joanie Mitchell or Carole King, I would pick both.

8. Favorite tv series? House right now, but I have been enjoying Bones. Okay I really like the Amazing Race did you only say one???

9. if you could choose 4 famous people (dead or alive) to have dinner with, who would you pick? My first question is can I bring Mick with me to the dinner, that might influence me because I might pick someone he would like to hang out with as well. I am trying to break this down into a few categories –Billy and Ruth Graham they seem folksy, author Jodi Picoult I would like to know where she gets her big ideas, musician Phil Collins for some reason I always liked his music, Emma Thompson I like the roles she has picked over the years.

10. what is something on your bucket list you haven't accomplished yet? Teaching my grandchildren to make quilts… That is because I do not have any yet, but when I do look out.

Inaugurate

Inaugurate:
1. to make a formal beginning of; initiate; commence; begin.
2. to induct into office with formal ceremonies; install.

1/20/2009 will be a date that many of our children and children's children will read about in history books. A day some people have prayed for since well before I was born. Even though I don't really have anything very profound to write, it seems odd not to recognize the importance of this day and the meaning it has on our country and its future. I remember being told in middle school that our generation would see an African American president, but not ever suffering for the color of my skin, just took it as a fact and moved on. But watching today on tv as many people shed tears the reality of what it has meant for some people for this day to come is far to great to overlook. I am thankful that their prayers have been answered.

Though I am not a huge Obama fan, I am a fan of a Sovereign Lord, who I trust knows what he is doing and planned this day before there was time. I pray that the Lord would use President Obama, guide his steps and protect him and his family. I've been praying too that Christians would respond well to this change of power. If anything this is a great opportunity to increase our prayers for our country and its leadership.

One thing that really shocked me today was the massive volume of people who attended the inauguration. And then God in his kindness had me read this in his word today:
Revelation 5: 11-14 "Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, 'Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!' And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, 'To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!' And the four living creatures said, 'Amen!' and the elders fell down and worshiped."
How sweet will that day be, how great and glorious will be the celebration that occurs. When every tribe and tongue declares worthy is the lamb, and every knee bows down to worship.... I can't wait! Today's celebration was great, but that day will be significantly greater.
